No More Excuses

Posted in green, Raves with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on September 16, 2009 by JD

madsen I’m guilty of it….I’ll just drive to the store, even though it is only blocks away, because I need to buy more than will fit in my bag (even though I have a large Chrome messenger bag).

No more excuses folks, enter Madsen cargo bikes.  You can probably carry as much in/on these bad boys as you can fit in the trunk of a compact car; plus, you’re getting some exercise, don’t need to find a parking spot on a busy Saturday and are not emitting any carbon emissions. And another awesome thing…..they are a local company, made right here in good old Utah.

I had the chance to check out a Madsen during the Bike Bonanza at Gallivan Plaza this past spring, and I can honestly say that they are the highest of quality and workmanship.  No, I don’t own one….yet, but plan on getting one this next spring (if I don’t win one first).

Floyd’s “The Wall” – Remixed and Made Green

Posted in green, Raves with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 16, 2009 by JD

green-tv-the-wallBritish kids sneaking around town, breaking into people’s flats to turn off TV’s not being watched, installing CFL bulbs, putting bricks in their freezers and toilet tanks in order to make them more eco-friendly, is the concept of a video released by green.tv to launch their new music channel.

The song is a remix of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall” done by DJ Eric Prydz and the actual title of the video is “Proper Education”. Give it a watch HERE

eBay Green Team is…uhhh….Green!!

Posted in Raves with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 6, 2009 by JD

ebaygreenteam-logo1 You know…..it is about time eBay finally came around to patting themselves on the back and started promoting just exactly how green of a company they really are.

Not only do they have one of the greenest buildings in all of San Jose and have green teams within all of their larger offices globally to promote green and eco initiatives in each and every eBay office; eBay itself is the absolute largest company in the world to promote and facilitate the re-use and recycling of goods. I would absolutely love to see the stats (if such statistics exist) of items kept out of landfills since eBay was created nearly 12 years ago.

In an effort to get people thinking about being more green and how eBay can help, they have launched community based Green Teams and they have an amazing and awesomely interactive site to go along with this launch.  Be sure to go check it out.

Hopefully you will begin to see much more info by means of social media via an employee group of users hitting the social media “airwaves” to help spread the good word (of which I am a member), as well as many community-based initiatives in cities where they have offices.  For example: Be sure to come down and visit with the SLC eBay CS employee Green Team on May 9th at the Salt Lake City Living Green Eco Festival.

Obligatory Obama Blog

Posted in Raves with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 20, 2009 by JD

barack-is-hopeHow does a blogger not write a post about Obama on this significant day in history?

Somebody on twitter today posed the question… “Would people be as excited about Obama had he not followed Bush?”
Give me your thoughts, but I say…HELL YES!! Obama becoming the 44th President of the US is a step forward in every sense of the word and in every way possible.  It shows that this nation is making progress, we are moving forward and leaving behind our old ways of thinking.  Yes, people are extremely excited to see Bush leave (with the exception of comedians),  but I think they are more excited about the hope they have for a new America.

True, I think some people may have their expectation set a little high and they think Obama will be a miracle worker, but… (yes, I am going to say it) without hope, what do you have – and there was none left in Bush’s administration.  You can’t expect for Obama to dig us out of this hole the Bush administration has put us in immediately, and I hope people realize this.  It is going to take time folks, but I have confidence in it happening. The man has been left with shit and it is hard to shine a turd, but he’ll do his best to get us back to being a  nation which people of the world admire and look up to, not laugh at and detest solely because our president was several donuts short of a dozen.

I must admit though….I will miss the Bush-isms.  The man said some hilarious stuff.
Had Obama’s speech not been so good, I might have actually missed having something to laugh at.
Honestly though, you should not watch your President’s speeches just waiting to hear what dumb thing he will say next.

Obama here is your noise! Wishing you and your administration the best in cleaning up the mess with which you have been left.

My Most Used iPhone App

Posted in Raves with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 16, 2009 by JD

grocery-iq

Okay, so it might not really be my most used iPhone app, that honor goes to the Facebook app or Bejeweled 2, but it sure gets used a lot!

Any of the other cooks and the grocery shoppers of their household out there probably have the same list hanging on their fridge or an ongoing list with a pen next to it sitting on their counters somewhere.  A list that you need to be in the kitchen to update, so those things that you think of while in the bathroom at work (yep, I think groceries while taking care of business) or sitting in traffic, rarely ever actually make it onto your list by the time you make it home.  iPhone and/or iPod Touch users listen up….Grocery IQ is one of the greatest apps you can download for your electronic toy.

The number one reason to get it? Your grocery list is almost always on you and can be added to and updated at any time.  You think of something you need while in a budget meeting? Reach into your pocket, pretend you just got an important e-mail and add that can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce to your list.

Other great things about this app?  Surely….

  • Creating favorites list to use for items you buy on a consistent basis
  • e-mailing your completed to someone else to do the shopping
  • an incredible search function for adding specific products
  • sorts everything by the aisle you will most likely always find them on
  • you simply check everything off while you shop and everything goes into a history folder when you are done

Sure, it’s not one of those apps you see and think “oh shit, I have to have that!!”, but once you get it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t download it sooner.
