Grabbing Hands and Roadkill

bazar-design_clicking_01Bazar Design doesn’t have a lot of different products to choose from, but what they do have is pretty damn cool.  What geek wouldn’t love this oven mitt? Wait a second, how often does the term “geek” and anything having to do with cooking ever appear anywhere near each other?  I guess it could be used for pulling your Swanson dinner out of the microwave; those things can get pretty damn hot.

You’ll Wear Anything….

iwear-your $66, 795
….is how much this guy will make with this brilliant little idea.  Okay, it’s not exactly a million dollar idea like the $1/pixel guy, but my guess is that at least $65k of this will be straight income for him.

I really need to come up with an idea like this.
I did have my a failed worldwide Munny adventure “Project Six”, but that ended somewhere between Denver and Iowa from what I am told.  It also wasn’t to make any money. I think I may just have to start that one back up again though, maybe with a smaller guy that is easier and cheaper to mail.

Anyway….kudos to this guy, 250 days of 365 already sold.

Make Me Cry Dallas

Posted in music, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 26, 2009 by JD

Two things to say about Dallas Green (aka: City & Colour):

1) the above song quickly earned it’s way onto my top 10 of 2008 and also became the theme for the birth of my daughter.  It damn near brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear it.  The man is a true musician.

2) If it weren’t for the other singer’s guttural screaming all the time, Dallas’ other band, Alexisonfire, would probably make it’s way onto my “great new post-hardcore” bands list (and yes, “new post-hardcore” is a genre) . Dallas, can’t you just sing? I know you guys are huge Quicksand fans (which is another reason you have my respect) and I’d have to say that if you were the sole singer, Alexisonfire could possibly be right up there as well, but just when you get a good rhythm going and one hell of a beat, I get a damn banshee screaming in my ear.   There is nothing wrong with a good screamer (Darryl Taberski), but someone that sounds like a dying cat going through puberty can ruin an otherwise amazing song.

p.s. – Despite me really wanting to like Alexisonfire, but just not being able to; anyone who names their label after a Quicksand song has my undying respect and adoration (Dine Alone records).  Oh….and signs Walter himself.

Stuck for Days

I have had this song stuck in my head for the past damn near week straight. No, it’s not new but it sure is catchy. You listen to it once and it’s stuck. I’ve been repeating “Die, Die, Die…Die, Die, Die, Die, Die” in my head as I try to go to sleep at night.  Damn you Avett Brothers, damn you for writing extremely catchy alt-country-folk music that I can’t help but sing along to…and along to…and along to.

Give the album a listen if you get the chance – Avett Brother “Emotionalism”.  It has some damn catchy tunes on it and a few that may even bring a tear to your eye (if you are human).

Obligatory Obama Blog

Posted in Raves with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 20, 2009 by JD

barack-is-hopeHow does a blogger not write a post about Obama on this significant day in history?

Somebody on twitter today posed the question… “Would people be as excited about Obama had he not followed Bush?”
Give me your thoughts, but I say…HELL YES!! Obama becoming the 44th President of the US is a step forward in every sense of the word and in every way possible.  It shows that this nation is making progress, we are moving forward and leaving behind our old ways of thinking.  Yes, people are extremely excited to see Bush leave (with the exception of comedians),  but I think they are more excited about the hope they have for a new America.

True, I think some people may have their expectation set a little high and they think Obama will be a miracle worker, but… (yes, I am going to say it) without hope, what do you have – and there was none left in Bush’s administration.  You can’t expect for Obama to dig us out of this hole the Bush administration has put us in immediately, and I hope people realize this.  It is going to take time folks, but I have confidence in it happening. The man has been left with shit and it is hard to shine a turd, but he’ll do his best to get us back to being a  nation which people of the world admire and look up to, not laugh at and detest solely because our president was several donuts short of a dozen.

I must admit though….I will miss the Bush-isms.  The man said some hilarious stuff.
Had Obama’s speech not been so good, I might have actually missed having something to laugh at.
Honestly though, you should not watch your President’s speeches just waiting to hear what dumb thing he will say next.

Obama here is your noise! Wishing you and your administration the best in cleaning up the mess with which you have been left.

My Most Used iPhone App

Posted in Raves with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 16, 2009 by JD

grocery-iq

Okay, so it might not really be my most used iPhone app, that honor goes to the Facebook app or Bejeweled 2, but it sure gets used a lot!

Any of the other cooks and the grocery shoppers of their household out there probably have the same list hanging on their fridge or an ongoing list with a pen next to it sitting on their counters somewhere.  A list that you need to be in the kitchen to update, so those things that you think of while in the bathroom at work (yep, I think groceries while taking care of business) or sitting in traffic, rarely ever actually make it onto your list by the time you make it home.  iPhone and/or iPod Touch users listen up….Grocery IQ is one of the greatest apps you can download for your electronic toy.

The number one reason to get it? Your grocery list is almost always on you and can be added to and updated at any time.  You think of something you need while in a budget meeting? Reach into your pocket, pretend you just got an important e-mail and add that can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce to your list.

Other great things about this app?  Surely….

  • Creating favorites list to use for items you buy on a consistent basis
  • e-mailing your completed to someone else to do the shopping
  • an incredible search function for adding specific products
  • sorts everything by the aisle you will most likely always find them on
  • you simply check everything off while you shop and everything goes into a history folder when you are done

Sure, it’s not one of those apps you see and think “oh shit, I have to have that!!”, but once you get it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t download it sooner.
